In the last couple of weeks, two of my critique partners have used their time during our critique sessions to work through plot and story issues, rather than addressing a piece of writing. I think this is a brilliant idea–and one that I’m going to borrow as soon as I finish this never-ending revision.
In the meantime, I thought I’d share a couple of useful posts about plot. Mette Harrison has some great questions on her blog today about plot–you should go check them out here.
Also, in the spirit of working through plot points, Dan Wells has a great 7 point plot system (I find it a little easier to work with than the beat sheets, although not as in-depth). You can find a summary of his system here, along with links to his YouTube presentation of the plot system.
What tricks or techniques help you with plot?
There are techniques? lol.
Sometimes just writing down random thoughts can help solidify the overall plot of a story.
Thanks for the links.
