As writers, we talk a lot about making time to write. If we’re really dedicated, if we really want to be writers, we’ll make the time. We’ll ignore our kids, not wash our laundry, etc., etc. That’s a lot of guilt to heap on ourselves, though.
If we want to be writers, it’s true that we do have to try to make writing a priority, because let’s face it, it will never happen without goals. But on the other end of the spectrum, we have other things in our lives that sometimes (if not most of the time) have to take priority. That doesn’t mean we’re not real writers. It doesn’t mean we’ll never get our writing done. It can feel like it, though.
There are just going to be parts of the year or parts of our life when writing can’t take precedence. We have to realize that sometimes it is not our writing season. There may be another time when we have lots of time to dedicate to our writing; we just have to keep trying.
And here’s a link to the song, to remind you:
Turn, Turn, Turn
Thanks for this. I really needed this reminder. I decided to take December off to read, and enjoy family time, but have been feeling guilty for not writing lately. Thanks again! 😀
